The K12 Online School Special Education program is designed to help students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) to maximize their learning potential. Our fully accredited K12 curriculum makes use of the latest technology, including adaptive learning software and virtual classrooms, to develop a customized learning plan that’s individualized for each student.

This innovative approach allows students to work at their own pace, whether that means going ahead or getting extra support in areas where they need it. Professional teachers and mentors are available for one-on-one support and guidance, and we offer flexible scheduling options so that you can tailor your child’s educational experience to accommodate their needs.
K12 is committed to helping children with individualized education plans (IEPs) succeed. Our special education program offers a personalized learning experience that meets the needs of students with IEPs, whether they’re in elementary, middle, or high school.
The special education department of K12 strives to provide the same education opportunities to students with a wide range of needs. Within the online school, special education classes consist of one teacher and up to three students. The teacher communicates with the student’s home-based educational assistant, who works with their parents or guardians.

K12 online schools are open to all students, including those with special needs. K12’s program of individualized learning is particularly well-suited for students who may have struggled in a traditional classroom setting. A dedicated and trained learning coach guides students through their lessons, helping them stay on pace and on track to meet their goals. K12 online schools work closely with parents, learning coaches and other professionals to identify the best learning environment and resources for each student’s unique needs. A key part of K12’s approach is the idea of individualization—that every student learns in a way that works best for him or her. With individualized instruction, a student may move at his or her own pace through lessons and assignments, adjusting the level of challenge as needed. Our curriculum includes a wide variety of teaching methods, including hands-on projects that bring learning off the computer screen when appropriate.
Students with autism, dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, and other special needs deserve the highest-quality education available. But traditional brick-and-mortar schools are often ill-equipped to provide the specialized curriculum that these students need. Luckily, K12’s online school programs can help. These programs allow your child to learn at home, on his or her own schedule, at a pace that makes sense for her or him.
K12 Online Schools offer an Individualized Learning Path (ILP) for each student in grades K–12. This ILP identifies strengths and weaknesses and recommends specific lessons and learning tools to meet your child’s individual needs. Teachers are always available to help your child succeed and reach their full potential as a student.
