Intensive Speech Therapy

Intensive speech therapy is a specialized type of speech therapy intended to help people with severe communication difficulties. These can range from people who have had strokes and cannot speak at all, to people with severe language disorders that make it difficult for them to be understood.

Intensive speech therapy is a treatment option for patients who have been through traditional speech therapy than haven’t seen the results they were hoping for. In intensive speech therapy, multiple sessions are scheduled during the week, and each session is 45 minutes long. The sessions are separated by 2 hours of rest, so that your body has time to relax from the cognitive strain of therapy. By working with you in this way, we can reduce the overall time it takes for you to recover significantly.

Intensive speech therapy is designed to help you regain the ability to communicate effectively. It’s typically recommended for people who have suffered a stroke or brain injury, as well as people who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or Parkinson’s disease. The process involves working with a speech therapist to relearn language skills and improve the clarity of your speech.

Each program is designed to meet the specific needs of each client, but they all take place over several consecutive days and hours. This means that you spend several hours per day, or even an entire day, working exclusively on your communication skills in a one-on-one setting with a trained speech therapist.

The goal of this program is to provide children with a functional and flexible language system that promotes independent communication with others. Each child’s unique needs are addressed using individualized programs, which are developed based on the results of formal and informal assessment procedures.

The success of intensive speech therapy depends on active participation by parents and caregivers in order to ensure that the child has opportunities to practice outside the therapy sessions. The therapist will train parents how to provide consistent and appropriate reinforcement for correct use of language during all activities of daily living.

Intensive Speech Therapy is an organic therapy for children that helps them to speak more clearly. It uses a combination of medical, nutritional, and behavioral tools to help children speak more clearly by the end of 8 weeks.

The program is designed for parents and caregivers to work with their children at home (or in daycare or school) as well as to meet with a speech therapist every week. Each week, the therapist provides the next week’s activities and checks in on progress from the previous week.

Intensive speech therapy is a great way to jumpstart the process of developing speech skills. Language is an incredibly complex, nuanced skill that develops naturally over time through exposure to a wide variety of experiences and situations, but when a child has a delay in language development, intensive speech therapy provides an opportunity to target specific areas of need and give the child extra practice with those components within a structured learning environment.

For children with a variety of speech and language impairments, intensive therapy can provide the greatest chance of making meaningful gains. In fact, recent research shows that children who engage in intensive therapy for at least 2 hours per day experience more success than those who participate in less frequent sessions.
