Inclusive Education Degree

The Inclusive Education degree is designed for individuals who are interested in teaching special education, early childhood/elementary, or secondary education. Students in this program will learn to meet the needs of all students, including those with disabilities and other special needs. This degree is offered 100% online and is designed to be completed in two years.

The Inclusive Education program prepares students for certification as a teacher of students with disabilities and for teaching general education in an inclusive setting. The curriculum is designed to acquire knowledge and skills that enable teachers to meet the needs of all students, including those with disabilities, in a variety of settings.

The program focuses on the following areas: designing instruction, delivering instruction, assessing student learning, managing behavior, and collaborating with families and other professionals. In addition, the student will study exceptionalities in the areas of intellectual disability; autism; hearing impairment; vision impairment; learning disability; emotional/behavioral disorder; physical disability; health impairment; communication disorders (speech-language pathology); giftedness; traumatic brain injury; multiple disabilities; developmental delay; and traumatic stress disorder.

The bachelor of science degree in inclusive education prepares you to teach students with disabilities. This program is designed to prepare you to meet the growing demand for teachers in the field of inclusion and special education. The Inclusive Education Degree program provides students with the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to effectively teach diverse learners in a variety of educational settings. Students participate in challenging and authentic field experiences where they are engaged as active learners, working collaboratively with peers, faculty and community members.

Students will be prepared to meet the needs of all learners through research-based practices that address academic, behavioral and social-emotional learning. The program emphasizes the use of technology and instructional strategies that incorporate Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.

This degree prepares students to become state licensed teachers of students with disabilities (K–12), working in general education settings alongside general educators. The teacher licensure option is accredited through NCATE/CAEP.

The Inclusive Education Degree is a bachelor’s degree in education with an emphasis on inclusion and support for students with special needs. This degree is appropriate for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in education, with an emphasis on serving students with special needs.

This degree includes courses that explore the inclusion of students with special needs, as well as courses focusing on the unique needs of these students and how to meet them. In this program, you’ll learn about how inclusive education can be approached and implemented at every level of education. You’ll also develop your own philosophy about teaching and supporting inclusion in the classroom.

In addition to taking classes, you’ll have three field placements that allow you to apply what you’ve learned in real-life scenarios. Each field placement will be at least 15 weeks long, providing plenty of time for you to explore different approaches to inclusive education, as well as teaching in general. You’ll also have a chance to work closely with your instructors throughout the course of the program, so that you can receive valuable feedback on your practice.
