Speech therapy is a highly specialized area of practice, requiring years of training, a license issued by an appropriate body, and continuing education in order to maintain that license. Speech therapists may also be called speech-language pathologists or speech-language clinicians. Because of this greater expertise, the results of speech therapy are more likely to be successful than those of medical doctors.
Some children need speech therapy only once, while others get it several times weekly. Speech therapy may involve using toys and toys incorporating games and other activities like blocks, puzzles or other building materials. Toys can be used to encourage children to talk more, or they can be used to simply give them something else to do when they are not talking.
The practice is owned and operated by Amy Thompson, a certified Speech-Language Pathologist who received her Master’s in Communication Disorders from San Diego State University. Amy has been practicing since 2009, providing speech therapy services to children in private practices, schools, and medical settings. Some children have trouble learning how to speak. This is called speech disorder, and it can be caused by many things. For example, the child may have a developmental delay, or he may have a hearing problem. Or maybe the child just hasn’t learned how to talk yet.

Children with speech disorders often have trouble learning other things in school, too. That’s because when children are having trouble speaking, they also have difficulty paying attention and following directions from their teachers.
