Helmets for Special Needs

A study was recently published that shows autistic children have an abnormally high risk of falling, which can cause serious injury. This has been linked to their lack of awareness of their surroundings and ability to interpret certain situations as dangerous. Helmets for Special Needs is a non-profit organization dedicated to making sure autistic children are protected from the dangers of falling by providing them with appropriate helmets at no cost.

Helmets for Special Needs has been providing thousands of helmets a year to families with autistic children across the nation at no cost. We work closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other organizations such as Autism Speaks and the Autism Society of America to make sure our products meet all standards set by their respective organizations.

We created Helmets for Special Needs to protect the most vulnerable kids out there—the ones who need a little extra help taking care of themselves. Every product we design and sell is a result of our intense research into head trauma-related injuries sustained by special needs kids, and the ways those injuries can be prevented. If you have a child with special needs, we know how important it is to keep him or her safe while they explore the world around them. That’s why we’re here to provide you with everything you need to do just that.

Our helmets are made from a strong yet flexible material that can handle heavy impact without compromising safety or comfort. They provide full coverage for your child’s head, protecting them from injury as well as the elements. Each helmet comes with two sets of padding—one is washable, while the other is meant to be replaced when necessary—and a breathable mesh lining on the inside of the helmet.

Helmets for Special Needs provides treatment and safety equipment to children with special needs, in order to help them lead safer, more comfortable lives. We source these products from a variety of manufacturers and custom-fit them for every child’s unique needs.

Helmets for Special Needs was started by a mother of two with autism, who, in her experience working with children on the spectrum, saw a need for helmets to protect children who are prone to falling and head injuries.

Now that her children are adults, she is dedicated to making sure all families have access to the same gear that keeps their kids safe and protected. Our mission is simple: empower parents and caregivers of special needs children to provide for the safety and security of their loved ones.
